MULTAN: Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Chief and head of Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) Maulana Fazlur Rahman on Sunday reached Multan and will preside over an important meeting over the arrest of workers ahead of PDM rally scheduled on November 30.
According to sources, the session will be attended by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senior leader Yousaf Raza Gillani, Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) Rana Sanaullah, Sajid Mir, Anas Noorani and others.
The opposition leaders will address a press conference after holding consultations to announce the next strategy. The move came after the local government arrested more than 40 activists over a clash with police officers deployed at Multan’s Qilla Kohna Qasim Bagh.
In view of growing COVID-19 concerns, the district administration in Multan has refused to allow the PDM rally. The administration also made arrests and registered cases to prevent the PDM rally. It also sealed all routes going to the venue with containers and released water inside the stadium as well.
According to sources, Multan police and administration blocked the central routes of the Qila Kohna Qasim Bagh stadium and removed the tents, chairs and other equipment from the venue of the PDM rally. “At this time, no PDM leaders or workers are present at the rally’s venue, sources added.
Police registered a case against 70 named and more than 300 unnamed party workers for breaking off locks and forcing their way into the stadium.
