ISLAMABAD: Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman has asserted that the Pakistan Democratic Movement aims at ramping up its campaign against the government, with the platform eyes more rallies in several parts of the country.
Talking to journalists following a meeting between PDM leaders in Islamabad today (Sunday), he informed that the country’s political situation was deliberated upon and the economic crisis in Pakistan was also discussed.
Other PDM leaders including former prime ministers Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Raja Pervez Ashraf were also flanked by Fazl, who is also the chief of the recently-formed political alliance.
The JUI-F chief said PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Asif Zardari also attended the meeting via video link. “In the backdrop of the various issues that plague Pakistan, PDM’s future road map was debated in the meeting,” he informed.
“The 11-party opposition has decided to take our movement forward and a schedule for more rallies in the various cities of Pakistan was discussed,” he added.
Fazl also announced that a meeting of the alliance’s steering committee would be held in Islamabad on November 14, in which future course of action to oust the PTI-led government would be finalised.
The alliance also expressed serious concerns over the delay in investigation of PML-N leader Captain (retd) Safdar’s alleged arrest under duress from his hotel room in Karachi last month.
“Despite the assurance of army chief that investigation would be completed in 10 days no headway has been made after passing of three weeks,” JUI-F chief said.
He maintained that the meeting also condemned the recent remarks by Minister for Interior retired Brigadier Ijaz Shah in which he had allegedly warned the opposition of attacks by the Taliban.
