LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has made the decision to appoint dedicated coaches for each format of the game, Pakistan Observer reported on Friday citing sources familiar with the matter.
Negotiations for the appointment of foreign coaches have reportedly progressed to the final stages, with former South African cricketer Gary Kirsten and former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie being close to finalizing their deals.
It is understood that Gary Kirsten is likely to take on the role of white-ball coach, while Jason Gillespie is expected to oversee coaching for red-ball cricket. Discussions are currently underway with both coaches on various aspects of their roles.
The paper claimed that Gillespie may assume additional responsibilities during Kirsten’s busy schedule, and ongoing discussions are being held regarding their future commitments.
Furthermore, discussions are in progress regarding the appointment of other support staff alongside the foreign coaches, as well as engagements with national coaches regarding the overall coaching setup.
Meanwhile, Babar Azam is set to return as Pakistan captain ahead of the upcoming T20I series against New Zealand on home soil, according to sources.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has finally taken the decision to reappoint Azam, who had stepped down as captain from all formats in November last year.
