LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has planned to appoint Babar Azam as the Test captain.
According to the sources, Babar Azam will lead the team in all three formats of the game till the next World Cup. Babar Azam’s name as Test captain will be announced after the approval of Chairman Ehsan Mani.
Babar is already leading the T20 and ODI teams. A few days ago, a senior PCB official asked Babar to lead the Test team as well and was assured of the board’s full support in this regard. Moreover, Babar Azam recently moved up to the third position in the new International Cricket Council rankings.
It may be recalled that in the third ODI of the home series against Zimbabwe yesterday, Babar Azam had scored a magnificent century. He scored 125 off 125 balls, including 13 fours and a six.

Yesterday’s century was the 12th century of Babar Azam’s ODI career and he has surpassed South Africa’s Hashim Amla and India’s Virat Kohli in the list of batsmen who have scored so many centuries in the shortest innings.
In the world rankings, Pakistani bowlers Shaheen Afridi is ranked 16th, Shadab Khan 30th, Emad Wasim 40th, Usman Shinwari 44th, and Hassan Ali 49th. In the world bowlers’ rankings, New Zealand’s Trent Bolt is first and India’s Jasprit Bumrah is second.
