ISLAMABAD: The Parliamentary committee is scheduled to be held today at 12pm over the appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and Members of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
In a previous meeting, the federal government and opposition agreed over choosing Sikandar Sultan Raja for the position of CEC.
During the Senate session, the parliamentary committee discussed names for the appointment of CEC and members of the ECP.
Both sides agreed on the names suggested for the vacant seats of ECP’s Sindh and Balochistan chapters, however, the name of CEC was undecided as the names of Babar Yaqoob and Fateh Muhammad were not withdrawn.
The names of Nisar Durrani for Sindh Election Commission member and Shah Muhammad Jatoi from Balochistan were finalized.
Both members of the Election Commission were chosen from the proposed candidates by the opposition. After the final consensus, the three names will be approved by the committee.
