Pakistan’s rice exports has witnessed a modest decline in FY25, recording 3.7% drop in volume while the revenue has also seen a notable decline due to lowering prices in the international market.
As per data, released on Monday by Optimus Capital Management, Pakistan’s total rice exports in FY2025 stood at 5.8 million metric tons (MMT), reflecting a 3.7% decrease compared to 6 MMT in the previous fiscal year.
Total revenues from rice exports decreased by 14.7%, down from $3.93 billion to $3.36 billion.
Experts attribute this decline to reducing global prices, especially in the non-basmati segment, which comprises more than 85% of Pakistan’s overall rice exports.
Exports of basmati rice experienced a minor 3% hike in terms of volume to 797,000 tons. Exports’ revenue dropped by 5.2% to $832 million from $877 million in FY2024.
Simultaneously, exports of other varieties of rice also declined 4.7% by volume and 17.4% by value due to declining demand and aggressive price pressure in major international markets. Non-basmati rice export earned $2.52 billion during FY2025 compared to $3.05 billion during FY2024.
Similarly, a steep fall in exports was seen for the month of June 2025. As compared to May, exports fell by 40.6%, and when compared year-on-year with June 2024, it declined by 37.1%.
