Pakistan’s veteran woman cricketer, Javeria Khan, has decided to bid farewell to international cricket after an illustrious career spanning 15 years. Her journey commenced with an ODI debut against Sri Lanka in Kurunegala during the Women’s Asia Cup fixture on May 6, 2008, followed by her T20I debut against Ireland in Dublin the subsequent year.
Throughout her career, Javeria represented Pakistan in a total of 228 international matches, amassing 4,903 runs, including two centuries and 25 half-centuries, alongside claiming 28 international wickets. Notably, she stands as the second leading run-scorer in both ODIs and T20Is for the Pakistan women’s team and joins Bismah Maroof as the only women’s cricketer from Pakistan to surpass 2,000 runs in each format.
Her journey featured participation in four 50-over World Cups and all eight T20 World Cups since its inception. Javeria also contributed to Pakistan’s success, securing gold medals in the 2010 and 2014 Asian Games. Notably, she captained the Pakistan women’s team in various matches and editions of ICC Women’s T20 World Cups.
In addition to her on-field achievements, Javeria’s commitment to cricket extended to coaching, evident in her participation in the PCB Level 2 Cricket Coach course last year. Expressing gratitude for her career, Javeria remarked, “I want to call it a day and announce my retirement, however, I will be available for league cricket.”
