Pakistan’s information technology (IT) exports stood at $2.825 billion during fiscal year 2025, depicting a strong year-on-year growth of 23.7%.
The Ministry of IT and Telecommunications is dedicated to making Pakistan a top digital economy by accelerating innovation, expanding connectivity, and providing access to telecom services globally.
The growth of the sector is being facilitated through global cooperation, such as a Joint Working Group (JWG) with China, on ICT infrastructure, cybersecurity, innovation, and regulatory frameworks.
Freelancers have contributed significantly to the performance of the sector through $400 million foreign exchange earnings. This highlights the increasingly significant role of Pakistan’s digital gig economy.
This upward trend persisted during March 2025, with ICT exports amounting to $342 million, up from $305 million in February. This represents a 12.1% month-over-month increase and an 11.7% year-over-year rise over March 2024.
In order to maintain and facilitate this growth trajectory, the government is broadening digital infrastructure and enhancing entrepreneurship. The Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) has initiated a program to open 250 e-employment centers by FY2027 with the objective of creating 20,000 jobs and fostering freelance work and startup culture.
Fifty centers are anticipated to be operational by the end of FY2025.
Moreover, under the National Incubation Centers (NICs), over 1,900 startups have been incubated, of which 960 successfully graduated.
