Pakistani teenager Saman Abbas who was killed in the name of honour by her parents is the latest example of brutality. However, the Italian court sentenced the parents of the victim to life imprisonment after the murder charge was proven.
According to the details, the body of Saman Abbas, who was killed for refusing to marry her parents, was found in the northern part of Italy in November last year, one and a half years after the disappearance of the victim. Her father, Shabbar Abbas, was arrested in Pakistan.
Nazia Shaheen, the mother of the victim, is still possibly hiding somewhere in Pakistan and has not yet been caught by the Italian police. The court sentenced the accused Nazia to life imprisonment in her absence, while the father denied the guilt of the crime.
Saman Abbas’s father gave a statement and said he never thought about killing his daughter in his life, while the uncle of the deceased, Danish Hasnain, who was involved in the murder, was also sentenced to 14 years in prison for facilitating the murder.
However, the court acquitted the two cousins of the deceased as the charges were not proven. It should be remembered that after Saman Abbas was killed in April 2021, the Islamic community of Italy also issued a fatwa against forced marriages and declared such marriages illegal.
