Narowal: A Pakistani man residing in Canada allegedly orchestrated the killing of his brother and two others during Tarawih prayers in Narowal, Punjab, reportedly over a long-standing property dispute.
The attack, carried out by a hired gunman, has sent shockwaves through the local community.
According to police officials, the tragic incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the City police station at the Haveli of Inamullah Butt, where a Tarawih prayer gathering was underway.
Amidst the congregation, an unidentified gunman stormed in and opened fire, creating chaos and panic among the worshippers.
Three individuals lost their lives in the deadly assault. The victims were identified as Imran Butt, Shahid Butt, and Zafar Iqbal, a Punjab Police Special Branch official. Additionally, a man named Shehbaz sustained serious bullet wounds and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the attack was allegedly orchestrated by Zaman Butt, the brother of deceased Imran Butt, who currently resides in Canada. Authorities suspect that Zaman hired a contract killer from Waziristan to settle a property-related dispute.
Providing further details, Regional Police Officer (RPO) Tayyab Hafeez Cheema stated that the dispute between the two brothers revolved around the ownership of a wagon stand.
Both parties had a history of legal confrontations, with eight cases registered against Imran Butt and nine cases filed against Zaman Butt.
Following the violent incident, law enforcement agencies swiftly responded by sealing the disputed wagon stand to prevent further conflicts. Additionally, preventive measures have been taken against both factions involved in the dispute.
Authorities have formed three special teams tasked with apprehending those responsible for the attack. The police expressed confidence that the culprits would be arrested soon.
Meanwhile, Inspector General (IG) Punjab Dr. Usman Anwar has taken strict notice of the incident, directing RPO Gujranwala to submit a detailed report on the matter.
