WASHIGTON: Pakistani-American Yasir Bashir has been appointed Assistant Chief of Houston Police in the state of Houston, becoming the first Muslim in the position.
Houston Police chief Troy Finner appointed Pakistani-origin Commander Yasir Bashir, as Head of family violence department . Yasir Bashir will be the first Muslim assistant chief of police in the United States of America.
The Pakistani Embassy in Washington has also welcomed the appointment. The US state of Texas is home to a large Pakistani community and the city of Houston is the preferred destination for most Pakistani immigrants.
