Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Munir Akram, has said that the banned TTP is becoming an umbrella organization for terrorist groups, and there is solid evidence that Kabul authorities are sponsoring the attacks.
According to national media, while addressing a session of the United Nations Security Council, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Munir Akram said that the Afghan interim government has failed to address the threats facing the region.
In his speech, Munir Akram stated that the TTP is the largest terrorist organization operating in Afghanistan. The banned TTP carries out attacks on Pakistan from border safe havens.
He said that hundreds of lives have been lost due to attacks by the banned TTP, while the BLA and Majeed Brigade are also attempting to sabotage Pakistan-China economic cooperation, and there is evidence that Kabul authorities are sponsoring these attacks. Pakistan will take all necessary measures to eliminate terrorist threats.
Additionally, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative Munir Akram expressed deep surprise and disappointment over the absence of any mention of terrorism in the UN Secretary-General’s report.
Munir Akram stated that more than 20 terrorist organizations present in Afghanistan pose a threat to the region and the world. Pakistan will initiate consultations to formulate an appropriate strategy at the United Nations.
Pakistan’s Permanent Representative further said that under the Doha process, a working group on counterterrorism will be established.
He also informed the Security Council about the arrest of ISIS terrorist Muhammad Sharifullah from the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
