ISLAMABAD: The National Command and Operation Center (NCOC) has announced the reopening of the tourism industry under the anti-COVID Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) from May 24.
A statement issued by the NCOC said that it has been decided to open the tourism sector under SOPs from May 24. Hotels and guesthouses will be required to acquire negative coronavirus reports from tourists.
According to the NCOC, hotels and guest houses are also required to ask for identity cards from tourists. Those who have been vaccinated will have to submit a vaccination certificate.
Rooms without vaccination certificates will not be booked for people above 50 years of age it said, adding after July 1, hotel staff will not give rooms without vaccination certificates to people above 40 years of age.
The NCOC said a room can be booked for a single person or for two adults and children. Tour operators and hotel management will be required to provide data on all travelers, and foreign tourists will be required to comply with test, quarantine and vaccination policies, said NCOC.
As per the NCOC, health declaration forms will be filled up by tourists at the entrances to tourist destinations, ensuring an adequate number of masks and sanitizers before visiting tourist destinations. The NCOC has also directed the concerned departments to ensure fines and other penalties for non-implementation of SOPs.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), Pakistan reported another 4,007 cases and 88 deaths in the previous 24-hour period. The national tally of coronavirus cases has reached 897,468 while the death toll stands at 20,177.
The number of active cases has reached 62,238 while there are 4,412 people remain in critical condition. There were 62,238 tests conducted in the past day, while the positivity ratio was 6.43%. Overall 813,855 people have recovered from the virus, including 3,712 in the past day.
Punjab remains the most affected region although Sindh has witnessed a sharp rise in cases since the past few days. Punjab has recorded 333,057 cases and 9,738 deaths, while the number of active cases in the province stands has reduced to 25,522.
