The federal government has announced its intention to acquire 40 J-35 fighter jets, KJ-500 Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW\&C) aircraft, and the HQ-19 ballistic missile defense system.
On Monday, June 9, shares in Chinese defense firms rose following Pakistan’s announcement of plans to purchase a fleet of advanced Chinese-made fighter jets—a move that could mark the first export of China’s fifth-generation stealth aircraft.
AVIC Shenyang Aircraft Company, the manufacturer of the J-35 stealth fighter jet, hit its 10 percent daily trading limit in Shanghai, extending a three-day rally. According to Bloomberg, other defense stocks also surged, with Aerospace Nanhao Electronic Information Technology Co. climbing as much as 15 percent.
The Government of Pakistan reiterated on Friday, June 6, that it intends to procure 40 J-35 fighter jets, the KJ-500 AEW\&C aircraft, and the HQ-19 ballistic missile defense system.
It is worth mentioning that the J-35, claimed to possess advanced stealth capabilities, was developed by Shenyang Aircraft Corporation and was first publicly unveiled at the 2024 Zhuhai Airshow. If finalized, the deal would represent the aircraft’s first foreign sale.
