Australia beat Pakistan by 119 runs in the quarter-finals of the Under-19 World Cup and knocked them out of the event.
In the semi-finals, Australia will now face India or Bangladesh. Batting first, the Australian team scored 276 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in the stipulated 50 overs, Matthew Kelly 47. Tag Wiley (71), Corey Miller (64), and William Cornelius (33) were the standouts.
For Pakistan, Qasim Akram took 3 wickets, Owais Ali took 2 wickets and Zeeshan Zameer and Mehran Mumtaz took one wicket each. In pursuit of the target of 278 runs, the Pakistan team returned to the pavilion for 157 runs, Mehran Mumtaz 29, Abdul Fasih 28 and Irfan Khan 27 runs could resist.
Earlier, in a Group C match played at Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad, the Pakistan U-19 cricket team defeated the Afghanistan U-19 cricket team by 24 runs to reach the quarter-finals of the ICC Men’s U-19 World Cup.
It may be recalled that after the defeat at the hands of India in February 2020, Pakistan was eliminated from the Under-19 World Cup.
