ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office on Monday summoned Indian Deputy High Commissioner Gaurav Ahluwalia after four civilians were injured during firing along the Line of Control (LoC).
According to a statement released by Foreign Office, Director General (South Asia & SAARC) Zahid Hafeez summoned the Indian official after unprovoked ceasefire violations by Indian forces along the LoC in four sectors on April 12 which injured several Pakistani nationala,.
Due to the unprovoked firing by the Indian forces in Dhudnial, Rakhchikri, Chirikot, and Baroh Sectors, a minor child was killed and four people were injured in Dhudnial Sector. The statement stated that in Rakhchikri Sector, two innocent civilians including a 26-year-old youth, and a 72-year-old elderly man suffered critical injuries, while two youth were injured in Chirikot and Baroh sectors .
The statement further added that the targeting of innocent civilians by the Indian occupation forces is a clear violation of the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding and complete disregard for international human rights. The DG (SA & SAARC) called upon the Indian side to respect the 2003 Ceasefire Understanding; investigate this and other such incidents of deliberate ceasefire violations and maintain peace along the LoC.
He also urged that India should permit the United Nations Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP) to play its mandated role as per the United Nations Security Council Resolutions (UNSC). This year, India has so far committed 749 ceasefire violations to date.
