Pakistan, chasing a target of 206, found themselves in deep trouble, losing six wickets for just 58 runs before the rains stopped play in the first ODI between Pakistan and Zimbabwe on Sunday.
As the rain intensified, it became clear that further downpours were expected, making it a significant challenge for the ground staff to prepare the venue before dusk, especially since the Queen’s Sports Club lacks floodlights.
Prior to the rain delay, Pakistan was in a precarious position, having lost six wickets with only 60 runs on the board, leaving them 81 runs behind according to the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method. At the time of the interruption, captain Mohammad Rizwan and debutant Aamir Jamal were at the crease, with Rizwan on 19 and Jamal on 0.
Earlier, Zimbabwe, having been put in to bat, scored 205 before being bowled out in the 41st over. They started strongly, with openers Joylord Gumbie and Tadiwanashe Marumani putting up 40 runs in just six overs. However, the partnership ended abruptly when Gumbie was run out following a mix-up in the sixth over, having scored 15 off 17 balls with three boundaries.
Pakistan’s bowling was led by Faisal and Agha, who each took three wickets, while Haris Rauf, Mohammad Hasnain, and Aamir Jamal each claimed one wicket.
