KARACHI: A total of 1,455 new cases of coronavirus have been reported across the country while 18 more people have died due to the virus in the last 24 hours.
The country imposed new restrictions to curb the fast-spreading Omicron variant, hence, the positivity rate now stands at 3.4 percent. While, the cumulative tally of the country has now climbed to 1,505,328.
Pakistan’s daily COVID caseload mostly hover between the 2,000-4,000 range for close to a month now as the country continues its fight against fifth wave of the pandemic.

As the fifth wave of COVID-19 intensifies, Pakistan reported 1,455 new coronavirus infections, a new daily record, with authorities linking the spike with the Omicron variant of virus.
As many as 1,412,429 patients have recovered from the disease. In Punjab, the number of patients swelled to 500,092 in the province with 13,480 causalities.
In Sindh, the number of infections has surged to 565,975 in the province, while the death toll has reached 8,048. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the confirmed cases have surged to 215,588 in the province with 6,228 casualties.
In Balochistan, there are 35,309 confirmed cases while 374 patients have died from the infection so far. There are 42,825 coronavirus cases in the AJK while the death toll has reached 786. On the other hand, there are 11,432 cases in Gilgit-Baltistan with 189 coronavirus deaths.
