ISLAMABAD: Pakistan reported eleven more coronavirus-related deaths during the past 24 hours, taking the death toll from the disease to 6,806.
According to the National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 807 fresh cases emerged during this period, lifting the national tally to 332,993.
Around 21,688 samples were tested on Friday as the number of infection spike with the advent of cooler weather. There are a total of 12,121 active cases of the coronavirus while 669 people are in critical condition.
Sindh has reported 145,475 cases, followed by Punjab reporting 104,016 cases while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa reported 39,458, Balochistan 15,896, Islamabad 19,818, Gilgit Baltistan 4,248 and Azad Kashmir 4,082.
Yesterday, Pakistan reported over 1,000 coronavirus cases on for the first time since July when the number of cases began to decline but have gradually started to rise.
The NCOC has made wearing face masks mandatory in public, offices and crowded places. The national body noted that the spread of the virus and the positivity ratio has increased in eleven major cities.
Planning Minister Asad Umar urged the people to take precautions and follow COVID-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) to control the “rising spread” of the pandemic.
The NCOC has launched a Whatsapp number for registration of COVID-19 related violations by the public. It has urged citizens to take a picture and a brief account of any violation of COVID-19 SOPs like non-wearing of masks, non-adherence to social distancing, over-crowding at public places and send the details to the centre.
