Pakistan Railways has announced plans to establish modern restaurants at the historic Golra and Margalla railway stations by next month in a bid to attract tourists and improve public facilities.
Golra Railway Station, over 140 years old and named after a village known for the shrine of Pir Mehar Ali Shah, will receive unique upgrades. Plans include a “café on wheels” set up inside a vintage railway bogie, offering seating for over 50 visitors. A separate area will host a private restaurant serving traditional and continental cuisine.
The Golra Railway Heritage Museum, established in 2003, will also be upgraded to better showcase its extensive collection of rail artifacts spanning more than 150 years.
The initiative was decided during a meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi, with senior railway officials in attendance.
Minister Abbasi said that the goal is to create a more welcoming environment at these stations. The upcoming restaurants will feature a contemporary design and be operated through private partnerships. Additional enhancements will include modern electric poles, clean and comfortable seating, and improved lighting.
At Margalla Railway Station, a cafeteria will be developed specifically for students, as the area houses more than four universities. The station is also being developed into a family-friendly picnic spot.
