Pakistan Railways has started building coaches for its own operations, media reported on Wednesday.
As per the report, the Railway Carriage Factory has successfully completed the first phase of its coach production initiative with the assembly of eight AC Standard coaches.
These newly built, locally manufactured coaches will be attached to the upgraded Pak Business Express, which is scheduled to resume operations on July 19.
The landmark occasion will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who is expected to formally relaunch the upgraded Pak Business Express, now equipped with the indigenously produced AC coaches.
According to railway officials, the shift to local manufacturing is part of a broader modernization and cost-efficiency strategy. The development is seen as a significant step towards reducing dependency on imported rail equipment, creating local employment, and revitalizing the country’s transportation infrastructure.
It should be noted that Pakistan Railways is one of those government entities that run in profit and earn billions of rupees for the government each year.
