Pakistan Railways on Thursday announced another increase in fares for both passenger and freight trains, following a recent hike in diesel prices. This marks the second fare rise in just two weeks.
According to the notification, passenger and freight fares have been increased by 2 per cent, while coal transportation charges have been raised by 3 per cent.
The revised fares for passenger trains will come into effect from July 18, while the new rates for freight services will be implemented from July 21.
Officials said the fare adjustment was necessitated by the rising cost of diesel, a key operational input for the railways.
The latest revision follows a similar fare increase announced on July 4, when charges were also raised by 2 per cent.
Yesterday, goods and public transport owners also announced an increase in the fare following a hike in the prices of diesel and petrol in the country.
