ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is observing Yaum-e-Taqaddus-e-Quran today (Friday) across the country to lodge protest against desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden.
The day was announced during a meeting held in Islamabad under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to condemn the heinous incident.
In this regard, peaceful protest demonstrations will be staged all over the country during which people belonging to different walks of life will take part to express their resentment over the desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden
The Ulema belonging to different schools of thoughts will throw light on the sanctity of the holy Quran during their sermons of Friday prayers.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has urged the civilized world and the global peace institutions to play a positive role in containing the incidents of Islamophobia.
The prime minister, in a tweet, said the desecration of the Holy Quran, as happened in Sweden and anywhere else in the world, was unacceptable for Muslims.
He said the incident hurt the sentiments of 1.25 billion Muslims of the world and stressed that giving space to evil-minded elements was a threat to global peace. “It is urgent to save the world from unrest, hatred, and violence on the basis of the religious divide,” he said.
To highlight the message, he said protest will be held on Friday where public rallies would raise voices against the blasphemous incidents in Sweden. He urged the citizens to participate in the protests in condemnation of the desecration of the Holy Quran.
The joint sitting of the Parliament on Thursday condemned the incident and resolved to uphold the sanctity of the Holy Quran.
The lawmakers from both sides of the aisle strongly condemned the desecration of Holy Quran outside a mosque in Sweden and called for measures to avoid such abhorrent acts in future that insulted the sacred values of Muslims.
Speaking on a motion to discuss the situation arising out of desecration of the Holy Quran in Sweden in joint sitting of the Parliament, they said the entire Muslim Ummah should forge unity and raise joint voice to stop the recurrence of such profane acts.
