ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has urged the US to get it off the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) grey list, which monitors global money laundering and terror financing.
At a news briefing here on Friday night, Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that Pakistan hoped the US would back its attempts to get it off the list at next month’s FATF meeting in Beijing.
“This conference is very important to us as it leads to an April plenary meeting in Paris where the world body can determine whether or not Pakistan should stay on the list,” he added.

The FATF has put Pakistan on a list of countries where money laundering has continued to be eradicated and where militants can still raise funds for their operations. If not withdrawn by April from the list Pakistan may pass on to a blacklist of countries facing severe economic sanctions, like Iran.
Mr. Qureshi ended his three-day visit to the United States on Friday following a series of meetings with key US senators and leaders, including Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and National Security Adviser Bob O’Brien, The Foreign Minister spent the week visiting Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United States on a diplomatic mission intended to ease tensions between Washington and Tehran.
