Earth Hour is being observed today, March 22, with people across Pakistan participating in this global environmental initiative. From 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM, all unnecessary lights will be turned off, and key buildings in the federal capital, Islamabad, including Parliament, will be plunged into darkness.
According to national media, this initiative is a part of a worldwide effort to raise awareness about climate change and the importance of conserving energy.
Cities like Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta, Multan, and Faisalabad will also witness similar actions, where both private and government buildings will remain in darkness for one hour, from 8:30 PM to 9:30 PM.
The global movement, which started in 2007 by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), has gained significant traction over the years. It serves as a reminder to individuals and communities to reduce their carbon footprint and take action against global warming.
Earth Hour is not just about a single hour of darkness; it represents a broader movement of environmental stewardship that extends year-round. It calls on individuals to reflect on their daily habits and make long-term commitments to reduce their ecological footprint.
By participating in Earth Hour, people across the globe reaffirm their support for a healthier planet, demonstrating that collective action, no matter how small, can indeed make a difference in securing a sustainable future for generations to come.
