Romina Khurshid Alam, the Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Climate Change, launched Pakistan’s first green road initiative on Wednesday at the Rawalpindi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (RCCI).
According to a report by Pak Observer, in her speech, Romina Khurshid Alam reiterated the government’s dedication to tackling climate change under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership. She outlined the country’s dual focus on short- and long-term strategies, such as renewable energy projects and the creation of climate-resilient infrastructure.
Romina Khurshid praised the climate initiatives led by Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, emphasizing their pivotal role in Pakistan’s comprehensive climate strategy. “These measures are essential to lowering our carbon footprint,” she stated.
Highlighting the importance of public-private collaboration, she described the green road initiative as a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to environmental conservation and climate action. “This is a significant step toward building cities that are both economically vibrant and environmentally sustainable,” she remarked.
During the speech, she explained that the green road showcases the seamless integration of green technologies into urban infrastructure, addressing critical environmental challenges while improving citizens’ quality of life.
She also linked the initiative to Pakistan’s broader climate objectives, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, expanding renewable energy usage, and fostering sustainable urban development.
