Karachi: Hospitals and laboratories across Pakistan are at risk of facing a severe shortage of crucial medical devices, as importers remain unable to bring in new equipment due to delays in medical device registration extensions.
According to the Healthcare Devices Association, if the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) does not take immediate action, the country’s healthcare sector could face a serious crisis.
Mohammad Umar, a key industry representative, warned that a shortage of life-saving medical equipment could halt surgeries and critical medical procedures, endangering patients’ lives.
From basic syringes to advanced testing machines, Pakistan’s healthcare system is experiencing a growing deficit, the association stated.
The Healthcare Devices Association has urged the government to simplify the registration process and extend the timeline to prevent further disruptions.
