Pakistan and Uzbekistan ink deal to increase bilateral trade to $2 billion

Pakistan and Uzbekistan have agreed to expand bilateral trade to $2 billion, a key outcome of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s visit to the Central Asian nation. 

During a joint press conference alongside PM Sharif, Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted the strengthening economic ties between the two countries. He said that mutual trade turnover had already surpassed $400 million, with ambitious plans to elevate it to $2 billion.

“Pakistan is a trusted and promising ally with a steadily growing international reputation. Despite global challenges, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is making remarkable efforts to ensure peace, stability, economic growth, and improved living standards,” President Mirziyoyev stated.

As part of the visit, both countries signed multiple Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and agreements to enhance cooperation across various sectors.

Key Agreements Signed:

  1. MoU for cooperation between the cities of Tashkent and Lahore
  2. Agreement between national news agencies
  3. Inter-agency agreement on youth affairs
  4. Collaboration in science, technology, and innovation
  5. Visa-free travel agreement for diplomatic passport holders
  6. Agreements on military intelligence, internal affairs, and professional and technical training
  7. Training programs for diplomats
