KARACHI: Tragically, a Pakistan Army officer, Major Saad Sheikh, who was shot and wounded by robbers in the city on March 31, has passed away during treatment at a hospital, police confirmed on Tuesday.
According to DIG-South Syed Asad Raza, Major Saad Sheikh was stationed at the Pakistan Coast Guard in Hub. On March 31, while on his way for Iftar on a motorcycle, the officer encountered mechanical issues near Gulbai and sought assistance from a nearby mechanic. It was there that armed robbers on another motorcycle approached.
Despite being in civilian clothes, Major Sheikh was armed. When the robbers noticed his weapon, they opened fire indiscriminately before fleeing empty-handed.
Major Sheikh was rushed to Dr. Ruth Pfau Civil Hospital Karachi and later transferred to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Malir, where he succumbed to his injuries on Monday. The DIG disclosed that the army officer had sustained four gunshot wounds.
Major Sheikh leaves behind a widow and two children, including a son. He was laid to rest with full military honors on Tuesday.
As for the investigation, authorities seized the motorbike abandoned by the robbers and claimed to have traced and identified the perpetrators responsible for the officer’s death. SSP-Keamari Faizan Ali announced the arrest of one suspect, Usman, involved in the killing of Major Sheikh following an encounter. Additionally, a pistol allegedly used in the murder was recovered by the police.
