Pakistan has more than 38 million beggars in a country with a population of more than 240 million, while in total these beggars receive Rs.32 billion daily. This was revealed in a new report.
As per the reports, some beggars have also established their networks in many foreign countries.
Among the beggars in Pakistan, 12 percent are men, 55 percent are women, 27 percent are children and the remaining 6 percent are white-collar people, the report stated.
50 percent of these beggars are in Karachi, 16 percent are in Lahore, 7 percent are in Islamabad and the rest are spread across other cities, it added.
According to the report, the average daily begging in Karachi is 2 thousand rupees per beggar, in Lahore it is Rs.1400, and in Islamabad it is Rs.950.
The average daily income of per beggar in the entire country is 850 rupees. These beggars take out 32 billion rupees from people’s pockets in terms of daily begging. This amount makes 117 trillion rupees annually, and in dollar, this amount is $42 billion annually.
