KARACHI: An eight-member gang looted more than 100 citizens at once in Korangi area as police failed to curb rising street crimes and robberies in the city.
The brazen incident occurred when more than 100 people were stranded on the Korangi Causeway river. The robbers set up a roadblock near Korangi Industrial Area and snatched valuables and mobile phones from citizens
The gangster brandished arms and managed to loot more than a hundred people. The victims said the criminals kept depriving the citizens of their savings by stopping the ongoing traffic and also snatched jewelry items from women.
Witnesses said police arrived at the scene 25 minutes late while the criminals managed to easily flee after committing the theft. SHO Korangi Industrial Area operation was unable to conduct an operation on the Causeway area against the criminals. Residents say looting, street crimes and other incidents near the Korangi Causeway are have become common and police have failed to take action.

Meanwhile, four citizens were shot and injured by street criminals for resisting robbery in different areas of Karachi. A citizen was shot and wounded for resisting robbery in the SITE area while another similar incident was reported in near Saba Cinema in New Karachi. A man sustained injuries during a dacoity in Block 5 Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
Armed criminals shot and wounded a man in Haroonabad area. The 55-year-old was identified as Zeeshan. In a separate incident, an alleged criminal was caught and tortured by citizens near the Malir Tanki bus stop. Police rushed to the scene and arrested the criminal besides recovering a weapon from his possession.
