ISLAMABAD: Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Zubair Mahmood Hayat paid a farewell visit to President Dr. Arif Alvi in Islamabad on Friday.
The President lauded the services rendered by the outgoing Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee for the defense of the country.
He said that General Zubair Mahmood Hayat is a true professional soldier and has been instrumental in increasing the efficiency and professionalism of the Armed Forces.
General Hayat’s Military Career:
General Hayat gained a commission as Second Lieutenant in the 3rd Medium, Artillery Corps on 24 October 1980.
He was further trained as a forward observer at the US Army’s Field Artillery School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, where he qualified and graduated as an artillery specialist. In the United Kingdom, he attended the Staff College in Camberly and is a graduate of the NDU, Islamabad in national security coursework.
In 2000–2001. Lieutenant Colonel Zubair Mahmood Hayat commanded the infantry regiment during the times of the military tension between India and Pakistan.
In 2002–04, Colonel Hayat was posted by the Ministry of Defense on a diplomatic assignment, serving as a military and air attache at the High Commission of Pakistan in the UK.
In 2004–07, He was later posted as a defense attache at the Embassy of Pakistan in the USA.
In 2007, Brigadier Hayat was appointed as Chief of Staff to the Chief of Army Staff’s office, where he served until 2010.
In 2010-12, Brig. Hayat was promoted to the rank of Major General and was appointed as General Officer commanding of the 15th Infantry Division stationed in Sialkot Cantt.

In 2013, Lieutenant General Hayat was elevated as a field commander of the Bahawalpur Corps, but this appointment remained short-lived. In December 2013, he was appointed as Director-General of the Strategic Plans Divisions Force, which is responsible for providing protection to the country’s nuclear assets.
In 2015, Lt.Gen Hayat was again posted at the Army GHQ and appointed as the Chief of General Staff under the then Army Chief General Raheel Shareef.
