KARACHI: Illegal outdoor advertisements have been placed on a busy road in DMC South in violation of rules and regulations.
Abdul Ghani was recently appointed as Outdoor Advertisement Director by DMC South Municipal Commissioner Akhtar Shaikh. The director has allowed placing outdoor advertisements without issuing the required receipts, causing massive losses to the municipality.
Well-placed sources revealed that the director and deputy commissioner have reached a deal and are been receiving a sum of one million rupees per month from Arif, the owner of M/S Prime Services, and have allowed the placing of two outdoor advertisements on a high-rise building on Main 26th Street in Clifton area since last month.
The total cost of the advertisement was Rs21,87,500 but Director Abdul Ghani has allowed issuing the hoarding without issuing a formal receipt. Sources revealed that he received an advance payment of two million. The private company’s owner also agreed to pay one million rupees per month.
The Municipal Commissioner allegedly receives Rs0.5 million per month, Deputy Commissioner South Rs0.3 million while Abdul Ghani receives Rs0.2 million per month. The officers were earlier posted in Outdoor Advertisement Department in District East where they were also involved in corrupt practices in awarding advertisements contracts.
The Local Government Sindh, Karachi Commissioner and other higher authorities have failed to take action against them.
