CHAGAI: The border authorities have allowed only Pakistani citizens to cross the Taftan border of the country due to the coronavirus.
In a statement, the authorities said they have barred the entry of citizens from Iran and other countries in Pakistan from the border crossing.
Pakistan has reportedly closed all the five entry points at the border with Iran, Taftan, Gwadar, Turbat, Panjgur, and Washuk.
According to media sources, at least 210 people in Iran have died as a result of the new coronavirus disease. The country’s health authority said the toll is 43 while the number of infected cases is 592,
Pakistan reported the first two cases earlier this week. Both patients recently returned from Iran. They reached Pakistan via airplane and passed the screening of all passengers who boarded the same flight.
The first positive case was reported in Karachi in a 22-year-old male with a history of travel to Iran where he has acquired the virus.
The virus has up till now spread to more than 30 countries, killing over 2,700 and infecting 80,000, mostly in China.
