Onijah Andrew Robinson, an American woman, was admitted to the Psychiatry Department of Jinnah Hospital in Karachi after traveling to the city in pursuit of her teenage lover.
According to sources, her mental health is currently under evaluation, following which appropriate treatment options will be recommended.
In a video statement released on Friday, Onijah’s son expressed that he had discovered through media reports that his mother was in Pakistan.
He mentioned that she traveled to the country to meet someone and her family, with the intention of returning home within two weeks.
Despite arrangements made by him and his sister for her return ticket, he stated that she was unwilling to come back.
Onijah has been in Karachi since October 11 of the previous year, intending to marry a 19-year-old man, and she is currently refusing to return to the United States.
Background
A peculiar love story emerged in Karachi on Thursday, involving Onijah Andrew Robinson, a mother of two from the United States, who spent an entire night outside her lover’s residence in protest after he denied their purported marriage.
The 19-year-old man, Ahmad Memon, reportedly met Onijah through social media and assured her of marriage.
Trusting his promise, she left her husband, abandoned her children, and traveled to Pakistan on October 11 to be with him.
However, Ahmad’s family vehemently opposed the union, leaving the American woman stranded in Karachi for several months, as her return ticket had already lapsed.
