Arshad Nadeem, the Olympic gold medallist from the Paris Games, is set to return to Pakistan tonight, where he will be greeted with a grand reception at Lahore Airport around 1 a.m.
The Lahore Police have arranged an elaborate VVIP protocol for Nadeem, with over 150 officers and personnel assigned to ensure his security. A police convoy, including elite forces, will lead and follow Nadeem’s vehicle. The convoy will be accompanied by a traffic pilot and a DSP-ranked officer, with divisional SPs, SDPOs, and SHOs set to receive him at various points along the route.
In his hometown of Mian Channu Chak 101, announcements have been made urging villagers to prepare for the journey to the airport, with government-provided buses facilitating their transport.
Arshad Nadeem will be accompanied by Major General (retd) Muhammad Akram Sahi, Vice President of Asian Athletics and Chairman of South Asian Athletics, on his return from Paris.
Traffic arrangements have been finalized under the supervision of SP Munir Hashmi, with Lahore Traffic Police ensuring smooth traffic flow on roads leading to the airport, including Ring Road and Airport Road.
In recognition of Nadeem’s record-breaking achievement at the Paris Olympics, President Asif Ali Zardari has ordered that he be awarded the Hilal-e-Imtiaz, one of Pakistan’s highest civilian honors. The award will be presented to Nadeem in a special ceremony, acknowledging his extraordinary contributions to sports.
The Aiwan-e-Sadr has already sent a formal request to the Cabinet Division for the conferment of the award following the President’s directive.
Arshad Nadeem made history by winning Pakistan’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in athletics, securing victory in the men’s javelin throw at the 2024 Paris Games. His triumph, particularly over defending champion Neeraj Chopra of India, has solidified his status as a national hero.
