ISLAMABAD: The two-day session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) begins in Niamey Niger on Friday.
During the two-day session, the forum will discuss a wide range of issues confronting the Muslim world with particular focus on combating Islamophobia. The session will also discuss disputes of Palestine and Jammu and Kashmir and the situation of Muslim minorities in non-OIC countries.
Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will highlight the aggravating human rights situation in Indian occupied Jammu and Kashmir and India’s illegal measures to change the demographic structure of the territory.
Earlier Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi met OIC Secretary General Dr Yousef Al-Othaimeen on the sidelines of two-day meeting.
They discussed a wide range of issues confronting the Muslim Ummah including rising Islamophobia, the situation in Indian Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Palestine conflict, and the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The foreign minister conveyed Pakistan’s deep concern at the aggravating human rights situation in occupied Kashmir and India’s moves to alter the demographic structure of the occupied territory in clear violation of UN resolutions and international law.
Qureshi expressed appreciation at the OIC’s consistent support for the Kashmir cause. The Secretary General reaffirmed OIC’s steadfast support on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute and also shared his perspective on the issue of Islamophobia.
The foreign minister had a meeting with Chadian counterpart Amine Abba-Sidick and exchanged views on bilateral relations, regional developments and cooperation.
Qureshi underscored the importance of deepening and expanding economic and commercial ties between the two countries. He apprised the Chadian foreign minister of the aggravating human rights and humanitarian situation in the Indian occupied Kashmir.
