The Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) on Wednesday claimed to have recovered natural gas reserves in the Khairpur district of Sindh with the help of the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC).
According to a report by Pakistan Observer, the well is estimated to produce about 10 million cubic feet of gas per day, which will help meet the gas shortage as well as address the energy crisis in the country, which has caused industries to shut down.
OGDCL, with the help of the Special Investment Facilitation Council, has also started oil and gas production from the discovered reserves in the Sanghar district of Sindh, while hoping that the energy crisis will end soon for the country.
Energy Crisis
In recent years, Pakistan has faced severe energy crises due to unfavorable agreements with Independent Power Producers amid the political complications faced by the political leadership of Pakistan.
Many leaders from different ruling parties have claimed that the agreements with IPPs, with terms and conditions detrimental to the interests of the people of Pakistan, were due to the undue gains attained by past government(s).
SIFC’s Role
The Special Investment Facilitation Council has been playing a key role in various business sectors, aiming to attract foreign investors to Pakistan and help the country navigate the ongoing financial crisis that has been affecting the economy for several years.
