KARACHI: In Pak-PWD tenders in Karachi, officials have crossed all boundaries of corruption and distributed tenders among particular contractors.
According to sources, all the tenders were distributed among the particular contractors against the rules and regulations.
Sources further said the officials continued to misguide the other contractors under the pretext of stay order by the court, while no evidence was provided to the contractors.
Chairman General Contractors Association, Abdul Hai Khan Mandokhel while talking to MM News TV, expressed his serious concerns in this regard.
He said DMC West Accounts Officers, Akhlaq Ahmed and Ejaz Ahmed were involved in blackmailing of the contractors and allegedly demanded enamors amount of many as illegal commission.
Abdul Hai demanded that government agencies in Karachi should be pressed the Sindh government officials to pay bills for development works completed by contractors.
Sources informed that despite province-wide lockdown and COVID-19 crisis across Sindh, various departments are continuing to release tenders and contracts for development projects behind closed offices.
Sources revealed that the Executive Engineer (XEN) at the Works and Services Department Sukkur Division issued a tender on the website of the Sindh Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (SPPRA). Sources also revealed that on March 26, Executive Engineer (XEN) Jacobabad also issued tenders worth Rs300 million on their official website.
District Municipal Corporation (DMC) South Karachi issued contracts and sought for Notice Inviting Tender (NIT) worth Rs120.10 million despite the lockdown. While officers are issuing tenders behind closed offices, it should be noted the chief minister has stopped the release of development funds.
Chairman General Contractors Association has demanded a complete investigation. He alleged that these contracts were being issued to hand-picked contractors and that the chief minister and secretary local government should take notice and revoke the tenders.
