NEW YORK: The total number of COVID-19 cases in the world have surged past 1.8 million in 200 countries as the world continues to tackle the virus.
The global death toll from the novel coronavirus climbed over 114,312 with record 780 deaths in the last 24 hours. At least 423,625 are now considered recovered.
Overall in the United States, nearly 560,00 cases were confirmed, including more than 22,115 deaths. For the second straight day, the virus killed at least 1,528 in a 24-hour period.
Italy, which recorded its first coronavirus death at the end of February, has 19,899 fatalities, with 431 people succumbing to the disease in the last 24 hours.
Spain has recorded 17,902 fatalities with 636 in a single day and 166,831 infections. China excluding Hong Kong and Macau has to date declared 3,341 deaths and 82,160 cases, with 77,663 recoveries.
France has reported 561 deaths in a single day, taking the tally to 12,210 deaths and 132,591 cases. The United Kingdom has reported 737 deaths during the last 24 hours, 10,612 fatalities and 84,279 infections.
Meanwhile, the death toll is 4,474 in Iran as a confirmed number of cases is almost 71,686. India’s total cases due to COVID-19 reached 9,152 today with the death toll hitting 308, indicating a jump of 796 new cases and 35 deaths in 24 hours.
