Former prime minister and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Tuesday said that a strong government was not the one that has the establishment’s support but the one that has the support of the people.
The leader of the PTI poked fun at the ruling coalition government on Tuesday while speaking via video conference to his loyals, saying that the country’s institutions are being destroyed because they want to split up his party.
“A strong government is not the one that has the establishment’s support, but the one that has the people’s support … Only a government that comes with the public mandate can make big decisions, bring reforms and instate the rule of law. Listen to me, this country would not survive if there is no rule of law,” he said.
The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), he insisted, is losing support as people are not willing to attend its public gathering.
The former premier admitted that this is a difficult time but vowed to never accept slavery.
“Sacrifices have to be rendered for freedom. I am prepared for it … I will never accept being a slaver to them at any cost … if we bow down before our fears your future generations will not forgive you because this country will not forgive you. This is the time for us to struggle for our Haqeeqi Azadi (true freedom).Never back out of this,” he added.
Imran alleged that many people, including party leaders, were tortured due to their continued standing with the party.
“Ejaz Chaudhry and Mian Mehmoodur Rasheed were tortured. And then all of our leadership is either in jail or people are hiding. Now they (the government) are after the ticket holders to separate them from the PTI somehow, and many have been,” he said.
The PTI Chief said that women are being scared into leaving politics.
“What they are doing with women … they have put them in jails and they are scared of what these women will have to say when they are released. They are scaring women into leaving politics,” he said.
Imran Khan feared that there will be another attempt on his life.
“If someone is in danger, that’s me. They have tried to kill me twice, and I know there will be another one. And I am prepared. So it is me who is in most danger,” he said.
