The appeal against the death sentence of convict Zahir Jaffer in the Noor Mukadam murder case has been scheduled for hearing in the Supreme Court.
A three-member bench of the Supreme Court, headed by Justice Hashim Kakar, will hear the case on May 13. The appeal against the acquittal of the convict’s father, Zakir Jaffer, has also been scheduled for hearing, along with appeals of other co-accused who were sentenced in the case.
The Noor Mukadam murder case is a grave and high-profile case that shook the entire country. The incident occurred on July 20, 2021, in Islamabad’s F-7/4 area, where Noor Mukadam was brutally murdered by the convict.
Police arrested the accused from the scene along with the murder weapon and also arrested his parents and domestic staff on charges of assisting in the crime.
On February 24, 2022, Islamabad’s District and Sessions Court sentenced Zahir Jaffer to death in the Noor Mukadam murder case and acquitted his parents of the charge of aiding the crime.
During the hearings of the Noor Mukadam case, Zahir Jaffer and other accused were presented in court, where extraordinary security measures were taken. Additional Sessions Judge Ata Rabbani, while delivering the verdict in the Noor Mukadam case, ordered the death penalty for the main accused, Zahir Jaffer.
The Sessions Court acquitted the Therapy Works employees and sentenced co-accused Jameel and Jan Muhammad to 10 years in prison each, while acquitting Zahir Jaffer’s parents of the charge of aiding the crime.
Zahir Jaffer was sentenced under Sections 302, 364, 342, 201, 176, 109, and others for murder, abduction, concealment of the crime, unlawful confinement, and other charges.
