US President Donald Trump has told big tech companies like Google and Microsoft to stop hiring overseas, including in countries like India and China.
Trump made the remarks during an AI Summit held in Washington on Wednesday. He said American companies should focus on creating jobs within the United States instead of building factories in China or hiring Indian tech workers.
“Many of our largest tech companies have reaped the blessings of American freedom while building their factories in China, hiring workers in India and stashing profits in Ireland, you know that. All the while dismissing and even censoring their fellow citizens right here at home. Under President Trump, those days are over,” he said. “Winning the AI race will demand a new spirit of patriotism and national loyalty in Silicon Valley and long beyond Silicon Valley,” Trump said.
Criticizing what he called the tech industry’s “global mindset,” Trump said this approach has left many Americans feeling “neglected.”
Trump added that big tech companies have benefited from U.S. liberty, built factories in China, employed workers in India, and concealed profits in Ireland—while continuing to ignore and censor American citizens. “Those days are gone,” he reiterated.
To win the AI race, he said, there must be a new sense of patriotism and national loyalty in Silicon Valley and beyond. “We want American tech companies to work fully and proudly for America. We want you to put America first—that’s all we ask,” Trump said.
During the summit, President Trump signed three new executive orders on artificial intelligence. One outlines a national strategy to accelerate AI development in the U.S. and remove barriers that hinder national progress. The initiative, titled “Win the Future,” aims to make the U.S. a global leader in AI by expediting data center construction and supporting the development of essential infrastructure.
The second order targets companies receiving federal funding, requiring them to develop politically neutral AI tools. Trump clarified that his administration does not support “woke” AI models and criticized the previous administration’s diversity and inclusion policies, which he claimed slowed down AI innovation.
“We are ending woke,” Trump said, insisting that AI models must be accurate and free from ideological bias. The new rules will also apply to government-deployed AI systems, which must remain politically impartial.
Trump also expressed discomfort with the term “artificial intelligence,” suggesting it fails to reflect the technology’s intelligence and power. “It’s not artificial—it’s intelligence,” he said.
