The annual income of the National Highway Authority (NHA) increased by 100 per cent to Rs 110 billion in year 2024, said Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan.
The minister informed that the annual income of the NHA has nearly doubled from Rs 64 billion last year to Rs 110 billion this year, which is “a historic and unique example in the income of any government agency in the country”.
Revenue collection at toll plazas has also increased from Rs 32 billion to Rs 64 billion, which is another milestone regarding financial stability.
During his visit to the NHA headquarters yesterday, Abdul Aleem Khan inspected the National Traffic Operation Center, and also reviewed the traffic monitoring and control system on the motorways. He also directed the department to prepare a report on revenue collection on a daily basis.
The minister expressed satisfaction that 99 per cent of the vehicles have been shifted to get M-tag facility on Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, and directed that the monitoring of the cameras from the number plates and sides of the vehicles should be ensured. “Its data should be available with the Secretary of Communications and the NHA Chairman,” the minister directed.
To create public awareness regarding the use of M-tag, the minister asked that an awareness campaign be carried out in the next two weeks so that more vehicles can benefit from this facility, which saves time, prevents theft and reduces traffic pressure.
During his visit to the control center, the federal minister engaged with monitoring officers, seeking their suggestions. He said that shifting the system toward greater automation is key to addressing the existing challenges.
