KARACHI: The newly elected members of the Sindh Assembly have taken oath during the opposition assembly and street protests.
According to the details, the first session of the Sindh Assembly elected from the general elections held on February 8 began under the chairmanship of Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani.
At the beginning of the meeting, the recitation of the Holy Quran and Naat-i Rasool (peace be upon him) was presented. The meeting started 40 minutes late.
The Speaker administered oaths to the newly elected members in Urdu, English, and Sindhi languages. During the meeting, 111 members of PPP and 36 members of MQM took oath. 1 member of Jamaat-e-Islami, 3 members of GDA, and 9 members of the Sunni Unity Council did not take the oath.
People’s Party’s Mehtab Daher and Nisar Khoro did not take the oath, while Jamaat-e-Islami Karachi Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman’s victory could not be notified. The Election Commission has not yet issued the notification for the 3 specific seats. Meanwhile, the opposition protested fiercely.
Other opposition parties, including Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, also protested on the streets, and during the swearing-in ceremony in the Sindh Assembly, other opposition leaders staged demonstrations and shouted slogans. People present in the assembly gallery also raised slogans.
Meanwhile, Speaker Agha Siraj Durrani expressed his anger and directed the protesting leaders to remain silent. He reprimanded those making noise in the House and asked them to be quiet, otherwise they would vacate the gallery.
