WELLINGTON: New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern and her partner were turned away from a cafe because it was too full under the social distancing guidelines.
According to state media, Ardern and her partner, Clarke Gayford, walked for a brunch to a cafe in Wellington where they were initially told it was too full.
A few minutes later, an employee of the cafe ran after them when a table became free and the couple went back.
In this regard, Arden’s partner said, “I have to take responsibility for this, I didn’t get organised and book anywhere.” He further said, “It was very nice of them to chase us down when a spot freed up. A+ service.”
Ardern’s press service said, “The Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern says she just waits like everyone else.”
Ardern’s government relaxed many social distancing rules on Thursday, reopening cafes, cinemas and malls after two months of some of the tightest restrictions in the world.
New Zealand has managed to contain the coronavirus pandemic before it strained the public health system. So far, coronavirus has affected almost 1,149 people and has claimed lives of almost 21 people across the country.
