James Neesham’s stellar five-wicket performance and Tim Seifert’s explosive 97 off just 38 balls powered New Zealand to a commanding victory over Pakistan in the final T20I of the five-match series at the Sky Stadium in Wellington on Wednesday, sealing a 4-1 series win.
After winning the toss and choosing to bowl in what was a dead-rubber encounter, New Zealand restricted Pakistan to 128 runs in their 20 overs. Skipper Salman anchored the innings with a fighting half-century, while Shadab provided some support.
However, the rest of Pakistan’s batting order faltered against the disciplined Kiwi attack. Neesham stood out with his five-wicket haul, while Jacob Duffy claimed two wickets, and Ben Sears and Ish Sodhi chipped in with one each.
Chasing a modest target, New Zealand stormed to a fiery start, amassing 92 runs in the Powerplay. Tim Seifert, in imperious form throughout the series, unleashed a breathtaking assault to notch up 97 runs, ably supported by Finn Allen.
Despite Sufiyan Muqeem’s commendable effort with two wickets and an economical spell, Pakistan’s bowlers struggled to stem the tide. On a batter-friendly pitch, the total of 128 posed no challenge as New Zealand coasted to victory with ease.
