Netflix’s ‘The Watcher’: Was the creepy stalker ever caught?

After three consecutive weeks, ‘Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story’ has been dethroned by ‘The Watcher’ and became the second most watched series on Netflix.

Interestingly, both true-crime limited series have been penned by Ryan Murphy. Here’s why how the new show, which is based on a horrifying true story, has instantly become viewers’ favourite.

Plot 

‘The Watcher’ is a story of a family that buys a dream home in the wealthy suburb of Westfield, New Jersey mansion. Things seem pretty normal until one day they receive a letter from a stalker.

Is it based on a true story?

Yes, the series is based on true story. In the real-life story, the family started receiving typed notes from a correspondent identified only as the Watcher, who claimed to have been watching their property for the better part of two decades, as their father and grandfather had done before them.

Along with making vague threats centered on the children—or, as the Watcher calls them, “young blood”—in the family, the letters posed such chilling questions as: “Do you know what lies within the walls of 657 Boulevard?”

There were plenty of suspicious neighbors, but the local police seemed pretty apathetic, even as weird things kept happening. Eventually, scared out of their wits and facing ever-worsening financial straits, they put the house up for sale. Unsolved when the original article ran, the case remains a mystery in 2022.

Was the ‘Watcher’ ever caught?

According to some people, people in the neighborhood were the mastermind behind it. Some even suggested that the couple were scammers looking for a movie deal. However, until now, the police have failed to caught and arrest the Watcher. The series is currently streaming on Netflix.
