Originally slated for a theatrical debut on May 9, 2025, the film’s plans were derailed following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. In response to the volatile climate, the filmmakers opted to bypass cinemas and premiere the film directly on Amazon Prime Video.

Multiplex giant PVR Inox, which had signed a distribution agreement with the producers, filed a lawsuit alleging breach of contract. The company claimed to have suffered losses amounting to Rs 60 crore due to the cancellation of the theatrical release.
Plot

Amid the legal fallout, a court ruling ultimately favored the multiplex chain, mandating that Bhool Chuk Maaf must first be released in theaters before moving to a digital platform. As a result, the film is now set to hit cinemas on May 23, 2025, with its streaming release scheduled for June 6, 2025, on Amazon Prime Video.
