Bhool Chuk Maaf, the emotional drama featuring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, has had a turbulent journey to release. Originally slated for a theatrical debut on May 9, 2025, the film’s plans were derailed following heightened tensions between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack. In response to the volatile climate, the filmmakers opted to bypass cinemas and premiere the film directly on Amazon Prime Video.
The unexpected decision to pivot to an OTT release took both fans and industry insiders by surprise. Anticipation had been high for the film’s big-screen run, and the abrupt change sparked a legal dispute that further complicated its release.
Multiplex giant PVR Inox, which had signed a distribution agreement with the producers, filed a lawsuit alleging breach of contract. The company claimed to have suffered losses amounting to Rs 60 crore due to the cancellation of the theatrical release.
Plot
The film’s plot centers on Ranjan, played by Rajkummar Rao, a groom caught in a mysterious time loop, reliving his wedding day with Titli, portrayed by Wamiqa Gabbi. As Ranjan navigates each repetition, he begins to uncover hidden truths and emotional revelations that could help him break free from the cycle and confront what truly holds him back.
Streaming details
Amid the legal fallout, a court ruling ultimately favored the multiplex chain, mandating that Bhool Chuk Maaf must first be released in theaters before moving to a digital platform. As a result, the film is now set to hit cinemas on May 23, 2025, with its streaming release scheduled for June 6, 2025, on Amazon Prime Video.
