Dhobi Ghat director Kiran Rao has returned with another masterpiece ‘Laapataa Ladies’, lifting the veil on deep-seated patriarchy.
Set in the fictitious Nirmal Pradesh that shares cultural boundaries with what the political journalists call ‘the cow belt’. After 12th Fail, it is yet another moving illustration of how pertinent social commentary could be woven into an engaging story.

About the movie
Laapataa Ladies tells the tale of two young husbands who miss their wives while traveling on the same train, much like a comedy-drama.
They have the only photo of the bride with her face covered, and when they tried to complain about the three-day wife, the entire police department was shocked by the evidence.
The remaining part of this movie was how both men rescued their wives and how the cops became helpless. This had a strong comedy sense and was set in the year 2000.
Where and when will it stream?
Laapataa Ladies will stream exclusively on Netflix. The release streaming date of the movie has not been confirmed yet, however, as per stats, it will be available to stream by the end of May.

Laapataa Ladies felt like a Hrishikesh Mukherjee-esque film from back in the day. A very sweet, comedy of errors, the film is well scripted with strongly etched characters, while also touching upon issues like womanhood, identity and ambition. An utter joy!
